An exterior view of the First National Bank of Joseph building in 2013, located on the left, opposite the Dr. J. W. Barnard Building, facing South Main Street. Notice towards the top, “First National Bank 1908” inscribed into the brick surface. J. A. Flesch & Sons designed the complex in Richardson-Romanesque style, which combines French, Spanish, and Italian architectural forms common during the Roman period. The exterior’s unified and simple design, its rough brickwork, plus the raised front where the structure’s name resides—known as a parapet, are the most apparent aspects of this 19th-century architectural style.
